Services

WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM


The American Indian Center of Indiana Inc. (AICI) is the Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Title I Section 166 grantee for the State of Indiana.

The designated service area of AICI's WIA program includes all of the counties in Indiana, except for the following six counties: Elkhart, Kosciusko, Laport, Marshall, Starke and St. Joseph Counties. (These six counties are located within the designated service area of the Pokagon Band of Potawatami Indians and its WIA program, based in Dowagiac, Michigan.  For information about such services provided by the Pokogan Band, please call (574) 255-2953 or (800) 737-9223.

Criteria to be eligible to participate in AICI's WIA program include:

  • American Indian, Alaska Native or Hawaiian Native.
  • 18 years of age or older and out of high school.
  • Male applicants 18 or older must register for the Selective Service.
  • U.S. Citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • Unemployed, or
  • Underemployed, or
  • A low-income individual, or
  • An individual who is a recipient of a bona-fide layoff notice which has taken effect in the last six months or will take effect in the following six month period, and who is unlikely to return to a  previous industry or occupation, and who is in need of retraining for either employment with another employer or job retention with the current employer, or
  • An individual who is employed, but is determined by AICI to be in need of employment and training services to maintain self-sufficiency.

Appointments preferred; walk-ins will be serviced as staff availability allows, or will be given an opportunity to make an appointment for a future date.

  • Job Search and Placement Assistance

Intensive Services:

  • Comprehensive Assessment
  • Career Counseling and Planning
  • Training and Education Counseling and Planning
  • Individual Service Plan
  • Work Experience/On-the-Job Training
  • Job Search and Placement Assistance
  • Supportive Services

*Services provided include those who are handicapped or with special needs.  All services are free to employers and participants.

CIRCLE OF WELLNESS PROGRAM


Through its Circle of Wellness Program, AICI provides health education, screenings, and referral services to American Indians/Alaska Natives in Indiana; also, AICI offers cultural competency workshops to non-Indian health care providers in Indiana who service American Indian/Alaska Native clients.
